El próximo miércoles 5 de junio a las 12:00 h. el Dr. Jean-Philippe Bedell impartirá el seminario Spatial distribution and succession of plants over 15 years in two urban stormwater basins.

Infiltration basins represent an effective technique aimed at controlling stormwater flow and recharging ground water but also at the same time filtering stormwater pollutants. Such artificial structure have specific characteristic (notably in terms of typology of rainwater entry, running…) that  make each basin as a one but also some general specificity as a dual source of anthropogenic pressure, the notion of trap /concentration of the pollutants brought in, and the functioning /management of the basin (flood, unclogging, clearing ...).
We hypothesized that the presence of flora meets particular ecological requirements and the bio-indicator characteristic of the plants makes it possible to inform about the abiotic parameters of the environment (availability of water, nutrients, organic matter ...) and indirectly on the running of the artificial structure. We identified over a decade the evolution of species richness of flora and its abundance on two types of vegetated basins: one where the vegetation was originally planted and grown (maintenance), the other naturally colonized with no maintenance. From these observations, we tried to establish the temporal and spatial evolution of the vegetation at the scale of the basin and to identify the factors that might explain this trend.
